Reservations

We would all like to drive the van, do we all have to be on the contract?
Yes. All drivers must be present at the time of pick-up and present a copy of their driving license.
What is the minimum age to be able to rent and drive a van?
All drivers must be at least 21 years of age.
We’re having a blast–can we extend the rental of the van?
We can’t blame you for falling in love with Maui! Give us a call as soon as you know you’d like to extend your stay, and if your vehicle is available, we will gladly extend the rental for you. Note that our rentals run by 24-hour period, and there is a $12/hour charge for additional hours (after the one-hour grace period). Note that rental extensions are not guaranteed and depend on vehicle availability at the time of request.
How far in advance do we have to make reservations for campgrounds?

Some campgrounds require no reservations. For those that do, same-day reservations are acceptable. Just note that for Keanae and Waianapanapa, you have to arrange the permit before arrival, as you won’t have cell reception in these areas. More information on Maui Camping.

I can’t drive a manual transmission, or I’m a little rusty. Do you have automatic transmission vans?

We do! We only rent out automatic transmission vehilces.

Pick Up Drop Off Van

We are returning the van after hours. How does this work?

There is no fee to return the van outside of our office hours. If we’re not at the lot when you return the van, you may use our automated return process. Make sure that you have filled your gas tank before returning. This begins by ringing the bell on the outside gate and that will notify the person that is on duty for that day. We have remote access to open the gate. We ask that you park the van in an available parking space on the right hand side of the yard when you pull in. Please ring the bell a second time to let up know that you have left the gated area and we will close the gate behind you. You can leave the keys inside the vehicle with the doors unlocked.

We had a change of plans, and will return the van earlier than planned. Can we get a refund?

Payment of the full rental period is due upon pick-up of the vehicle, and there is no refund for early returns. If you want to change your dates to shorten your stay, you must do so prior to your scheduled pick-up time.

Our flight arrives late afternoon or in the evening. Can we still pick-up the van?

Yes. We offer after-hours vehicle pick-up upon request between 7:00PM and 7:00AM, for a $50 service fee. For after-hours pick-ups, we require you provide us with your arrival flight information. A cheap hotel costs $175 for a single night.

Do you offer airport pick-up services?

We no longer offer airport transfer. We recommend UBER of LYFT since these are fast and economical services.

Camper Van

We left the headlights/radio on and the battery is dead. What should we do?

No worries! We include jumper cables in all of our vehicles and people are very friendly on Maui.

What is the extent of our responsibility with the van?

For all practical purposes, the vehicle is your property during the rental, and you should treat it with as much care and caution as if it were your own vehicle. Per our rental agreement—which is standard across car rental companies—you are responsible for all damage to, or loss or theft of, the Vehicle, including damage caused by weather, road conditions, and acts of nature, whether or not you are at fault. You are responsible for the cost of repair, or the actual cash retail value of the Vehicle on the date of the loss if the Vehicle is not repairable or if we elect not to repair the Vehicle, Loss of Use, and our administrative expenses incurred in processing the claim. With our insurance, you are only liable for the first $1000 of damages.

There’s a Check Engine, Light Low Oil or High Temperature. Can I just ignore it?

No! If you see a light indicating low oil level, or high temperature, pull over in a safe spot and give us a call as soon as possible. If it’s overheating for no apparent reason, pull over and give us a call as soon as possible for further assistance. If it is a check engine light, it may simply be a loose gas cap. We monitor the mechanical status of the vans via a remote service.

We got a flat tire. What should we do?

Each camper is equipped with a jack in the left side panel of the rear interior, and a spare tire under the van. If you can’t change the tire yourself, ask for help around you if available and/or give us a call. Note that you are liable for all damages to vehicle, tires, towing charges and other expenses as a result of a breakdown associated with operating in unauthorized areas, unpaved or dirt roads. Depending on the circumstances of the flat tire, you may be responsible for the damages, so please, be careful.

What happens if our van breaks down?

Pull over in a safe spot, and give us a call as soon as possible. We have 24/7 roadside assistance and will troubleshoot, repair, or replace your van as soon as possible. Please note that depending on where you are located, it might take us a few hours to reach you.

Is insurance included with the camper van?
NO… But most insurance providers have a rental car coverage of their own for their customers. Check with your insurance to see if you need coverage. If you do, we offer liability and collision coverage at a rate of $15 per day and with a $1000 deductible. This is known as out Collision Damage Waiver.

Maui Activities

We heard you offer activities on Maui. How does that work?

We have direct access to most activities on Maui. You can give us a call ahead of your arrival at 1-800-482-2070 to find out more and make bookings. We can arrange activities when you come to pick up your vehicle, however, the prices are the lowest if you book in advance. Ask about our currently featured adventure packages.

Camping on Maui

Can we explore West Maui?

Yes! This is a less travelled, under-rated road trip, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and Moloka’i Island. You may drive all the way up the Olivine Pools (mile marker 16), then will have to turn around, however the drive back is even more beautiful. Further on, the road becomes a very narrow one-lane road, with sheer cliffs on one side and no guard rail, making it very treacherous, so our vans are not allowed in this area—just like any other rental vehicle on island. From the other side, you can drive up to Mendes Ranch and Waihe’e Ridge Trail.

Can we do the road to Hana with the van?

Absolutely! Actually, this is the most popular trip people take in our campers. There are three campsites on the way, so you can take your sweet time. Note that the vans—just like all other rental vehicles on island—are not covered on the 7 mile of unpaved section of the road between Kipahulu and Kaupo. This is due to the road’s bad conditions, and it being a very narrow one-lane road in some areas.  We do not restrict you from going here, but please use wisdom when traveling this road.

Where can we take a shower while on our trip?

Most of the campsites around Maui offer outdoor and/or indoor showers (usually cold water). All the County Beach Parks have outdoor cold showers, and the swimming pools have hot showers for use free of charge.

How can we charge our phone and other electronic devices while on our trip?

All our vans are equipped with functioning cigarette lighter plugs, so you can bring your USB adapter (we can provide one also). Most of our campers are also equipped with recent audio systems with a audio outlet.

How far in advance do we have to make reservations for campgrounds?

Some campgrounds require no reservations. For those that do, same-day reservations are acceptable. More information on Maui Camping.

Other

Do you have additional camping equipment?

Yes! We have chairs, tables, tents, hammocks, car seats, snorkel sets, and more. Let us know what you will need when you make your reservation request, and we will make sure we have it available for you upon check-in. You may also decide what additional gear you’d like when you arrive.

We read in a forum that you need a 4WD to drive on Maui. Is that true?

No. Maui’s roads and infrastructures and in very good shape, and unless you want to go off-road on private property, you don’t need a 4WD. Our vehicles are restricted from going off road unless the location is approved by our staff.

We are from a foreign country. Do we need an international driver’s license?

It is recommended for foreign drivers to get an international driver’s license prior to their trip—particularly from non-English speaking countries, however, it is not required.
